Just to complete my report from yesterday on See and Be Seen campaign posters popping up around town, yesterday I snapped a photo of this TriMet bus sporting the poster. Rock on PDOT, I think this campaign is really helping to remind us all to light up and look out for each other.
As promised as part of PDOT’s new “See and Be Seen” effort, signs for the campaign are popping up around town on TriMet bus stops and bus benches. I noticed these out in the Portsmouth neighborhood in North Portland this morning (I’ve also seen them off of Powell Blvd. in Southeast Portland).

BTA Policy Director Scott Bricker has announced their 2007 legislative agenda and the “overarching concern” is safety. They will move three bills and hope to partner with legislators to make them into law. Here are the three bills (with my comments following each one):

[The crux of the problem.] The current Oregon statutes governing the operation of a motor vehicle in a bike lane are confusing and unclear. The Portland Police Bureau found this out the hard way and they want to find a solution and have the laws fixed for good at the upcoming legislative session in Salem.
Starting today, Police officers in Missoula Montana will give away a free set of bike lights to cyclists stopped for not having them. Sound familiar? It should. The program takes a page out of a similar program by the Portland Police Bureau that began over a year ago.
