The weekend is once again nearly upon us. Have you firmed up your plans?
And while the guide is usually all about Friday through Sunday, we’d be remiss not to mention the big events happening tonight: Do not miss the Filmed by Bike Poster Show opening night at Breadwinner Cafe and the big City Council Candidate Forum on Transportation, followed by the weekly Thursday Night Ride. As usual, all the details are on the BP Calendar.
I love this time of year. There’s a feeling that the worst of winter is behind us and everyone — and everything — is coming out of its shell.
It’s a great time of year to re-connect with riding buddies and make sure your bike is running well. On that note, this weekend our calendar is full of great social rides and opportunities to sort out your kit for the coming season.
Have fun out there! And remember to share photos and recaps by tagging @BikePortland on social media. [Read more…]
March is here and the sun is shining! That means we’re slowly creeping out of winter and into spring.
And that’s not the only thing we’re grateful for today: I’m also happy to share that our friends at Abus bike locks have stepped up once again to support our work and promote their products. Abus is now the title sponsor of our Weekend Guide and the BikePortland Calendar. If your business wants to work with us, opportunities are filling up quickly. Get in touch today to see how you can build your brand and sales while helping independent community journalism thrive.
Now back to our regularly scheduled plan-making. Here’s the list of the best bikey things to do this weekend…
If you’re worried that this crazy weather has foiled your bike fun for the weekend, think again! While the snow and ice (and soon, mud and gravel) might seem frightful, we’ve got a full menu of great options that look simply delightful. Not to mention most of them are indoors.
And you want ride inspiration? How about meeting the expert on the Coast Route on Friday night? Then on Saturday you can hear bikepacking tales galore from pioneers who’ve tackled the Oregon Timber Trail. On Sunday, why not get together with fellow three-speeders and plan your world takeover?
We’ve got all that and more in this week’s event guide. And as always, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out the BikePortland Calendar for even more great ideas.

Are you ready for Mini Bike Winter?
ZooBomb’s annual event kicks off tomorrow night and continues through the weekend. If you can only make it out one day, I’d highly recommend Saturday. The MBW Olympics are sure to please and everyone’s welcome to join in the fun. The finale will be the infamous Ben Hurt Chariot Wars which pit teams against each other for an all-out duel. Last chariot standing takes home the trophy.
But of course that’s not all there is to do this weekend. Our calendar is full of great ideas and we’ve picked out a few highlights to share below…
OMG so cute. You know you wanna do the Worst Day of the Year Ride on Sunday. (Photo: J. Maus/BikePortland)
The weekend is right around the corner and now is the time to tidy up your plans.
Our guide this week has two special “BP Picks!” — which means we’re working hard to feature these events because the organizers support BikePortland. If that’s not added reason to check them out I don’t know what is.

Bike. Love. Stories.
Don’t miss The Street Trust’s Live the Revolution bicycle-themed storytelling event on Friday, February 9th. Tickets and more info here. *Advertisement
Is all the grey weather getting you down? Do you get unexpectedly happy when the sky turns bright? If so (or if not), you should check out the Portland Winter Light Festival. This year bike-related events are featured prominently. Biketown will place specially-lit bikes at stations near the start of the big parade near OMSI, Filmed by Bike will host an installation, you can get half-off a day-use bike share pass, and there’s a big bike parade!
We’ve got all the Winter Light Fest details and much more in this week’s guide… [Read more…]
