Yes, cross is here; but it’s not the only thing on the menu this weekend.

While Portland’s favorite cycling discipline kicks off with a race just across the river in Vancouver on Saturday, we’ve also got things for commuters, wonks, newbies and dog lovers.

Check out our selection…

The weekend is almost here. And thankfully, the weather gods have planned a reprieve from the heat.

The annual Bridge Pedal happens on Sunday. The event has lost a bit of its epicness as organizers continue to wrangle with a new approach by the City of Portland to limit the scope of large-scale events in the public right-of-way. The full route includes just six bridges these days (down from ten); but lucky participants still get the chance to experience a carfree ride atop the Marquam and Fremont bridges. That’s an opportunity you can only get during this event!

Here are the rest of our picks for the weekend (see the full calendar for more suggestions).

The weekend is almost here. And with temps expected to heat back up, you might want to plan your riding earlier or later than usual.

A highlight this weekend includes the first-ever Salmon Cycling Classic down in Wilsonville. And Sunday is the most anticipated Sunday Parkways event of the year: A route that will follow the outline of the future Green Loop! PBOT has really pulled out all the stops on this one, with more activities than you could possibly fit into five hours. So check out the event brochure before you go in order to plan your attack.

It’s going to be a hot one, so be prepared!

If you want to see Portland beyond close-in neighborhoods, it’s an ideal weekend to venture out. The Rosewood Walkways event on Saturday will be a smaller version of Sunday Parkways and the focus will be on using feet instead of bikes. You’ll have free reign of 1.5 miles of carfree streets to soak up the art and culture of a part of Portland that often gets overlooked.

With all the depressing absurdity in the news, you could probably use a good bike ride right about now.

Good thing the weekend is right around the corner. And even though we’re coming to the end of Pedalpalooza there’s no shortage of fun to be had.

The aforementioned month-long festival of free bike fun ends with a bang with rides that will illuminate your brain and the night. And who’s ready for a challenge? There’s racing on Mt. Hood and a big adventurous option just on the other side of the Columbia River. And remember this is only a selection of all the great events. Check the calendar for full listings.

From epic challenges to unrivaled hijinx, there are many great things to choose from. And remember, this is just a sampling. The BikePortland Calendar and Shift’s Official Pedalpalooza Calendar have even more.

What do you have planned? I’ll be headed east to the small town of Burns in eastern Oregon for the Skull 120 Gravel Race. Tomorrow night there will be a dinner where locals will offer knowledge about the area and share their hopes for how cycling can help boost their economy.

Here are this week’s selections…

How’s your Pedalpalooza going so far? By all accounts the rides have been great with big turnouts and leaders who’ve kept them interesting and fun. Of course we’re just one week in so hopefully you have paced yourself to keep up with all the action.

If you’d rather escape the city, we suggest heading for wine country for the Joyride (by Cycle Oregon) or the Whiskey Run MTB Festival.

And we’d be remiss to not share a special shout-out to Dan and Dave’s Wedding Ride on Saturday. This dynamic duo of bike fun will tie the knot while pedaling around Ladd Circle!
