Key Crossing vote comes tomorrow

A key vote will be made tomorrow by the Columbia River Crossing Task Force. The 39-member panel will vote on how to move forward into the next phase of the project.

Chris Smith of PortlandTransport.com has covered this issue (with skepticism) very closely, I’ve expressed my grave concerns and have urged a shift in thinking about it, Metro recently voted to encourage that a new alternative be considered, and the Portland Tribune and the Oregonian have weighed in with recent editorials.

But it all comes down to tomorrow. If a more sensible alternative to the “Gargantuan Bridge” option (as Ron Buel put it) is not allowed into the next phase, it will be a major setback for all of us.

Think good thoughts.

The vote takes place at 4:00 pm tomorrow (2/27) at ODOT offices (123 NW Flanders St.). There will be an opportunity for public comment. More details on the meeting here.
