Some great news to share…
As part of a big project to get more folks to walk and bike around their neighborhoods, the City of Portland Office of Transportation will include 5,000 of my stickers (see below) in a kit they’re sending to residents of Northeast Portland. Woohoo! More details on the “Northeast Hub” project to come…
Get most of Portland’s bike advocates in one room, add free food and drinks, throw in a few city commissioners, and top it off with a couple congressman and you’ve got the recipe for some real bike lovin’.
An exciting cross-section of the bike community got together at the Bike Gallery last night to pat ourselves on the back and look forward to a major push for Platinum. It was cool to have all that bike energy cramped together…you could really sense the enthusiasm and potential in the room.

My Green Kona bike was stolen from my house on 2/2/06…It was shiny and pretty with a black gel seat, back pedal brakes, a orange and black horn and a six spped gear shifter. It had small dancing skeletons on the top support bar and was my favorite bike I have ever owned. However, despite my love I failed to take any snapshots of my bike so instead I have included a drawing with details. It may not be exact but it’s pretty close! I love my bike and miss it terribly…Please help in my search!

Three Portland bike shops were noted as “Top 100 Shops” by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News. The three shops are Bike N’ Hike, River City Bicycles and Bike Gallery. According to the magazine, they were chosen because they excel in three areas: market share, community outreach, and store appearance.
We had reached a stage in our relationship of true love and comittment. We recently did the STP together, we were averaging one hundred miles a week and I was car free – unafraid of any commute. Then my beloved Italian road bike was abducted. This happened in early fall. I notified the police and bike shops, and visited many surly pawn shops. No sign of my bike and no funds to purchase another bicycle, I borrowed a cruiser from a friend and am limited to 2 to 3 mile commutes. UNTIL….
I SAW SOMEONE RIDING MY BIKE!
They had covered the distinguishing name/ logo with black material. I chased after them but they were gone. I realize that this may be an innocent person riding a stolen bicycle. Please look at the picture and imagine black material covering the words on the bike. Give me a call / email if you can help.

on january 2nd or 3rd, my partner’s highly customized schwinn super sport road bike, ca. 2004, was stolen from the mudroom of our house in north portland. it had a charcoal frame with yellow handlebar tape. most distinguishing was its custom pannier racks, built by her father. forged out of a single piece of raw aluminum each, the custom racks looped on each side of the wheel and then once over the tire. (imagine a rollercoaster with two loop-de-loops connected at the top.) as for the frame itself, the serial # is IDT4-31078.
here’s the information on everything else custom that went into this bike:

The Rose City Rollers (Portland’s all-female roller derby league) open their season this Saturday night at the Expo Center. But for me, the most exciting thing on the schedule has nothing to to with roller skates. I’ll be there for the “mini-bike extravaganza” planned for half-time.
What’s a mini-bike extravaganza? According to Handsome Dave (the man behind the madness) he’s putting together a half-time show that includes the Sprockettes, the Zoobombers, and the Dingo Dizmal Clownarchy.
A few days ago, a BikePortland.org reader noticed his stolen bike listed on Craigslist. Eager for revenge on the suspected thief he contacted the seller. Turns out the seller was a nice guy who had unknowingly bought the bike through the Police on eBay.

North Portland based Mountain Cycle and global bike giant Specialized Bicycle Components of Morgan Hill, California are locked in a disagreement that neither side is backing down from. At issue is Mountain Cycle’s use of, “Stumptown” which has been the model name for their cyclocross bike since 2003.
The City of Portland Office of Transportation has just announced that the official launch of their “Portland Go Platinum” campaign (website) will happen Thursday night at Bike Gallery‘s downtown location. The announcement will piggyback on the “Ride Portland” event being planned by Bike Gallery to celebrate the arrival of the new Trek “Portland” model.
