Bells on Bikes event a big success

A group of volunteers concerned about bicycle and pedestrian safety on crowded bike lanes and paths, handed out free bike bells to downtown commuters on both sides of the Hawthorne Bridge this morning.

Survey says 5 percent of downtown employees go by bike

The Oregonian reports that the Portland Business Alliance has released their annual Downtown Business Census and Survey. The report focuses mostly on real estate and attitudes about downtown business issues, but it also includes a page titled, “How Downtown Employees Get to Work.”

Fixed-gear bill passes House committee

Senate Bill 729, which seeks to clarify the existing bicycle brake requirement so that fixed-gear bicycles don’t need an additional brake (as long as they meet the performance standard), got its first hearing on the House side of the capitol in Salem this morning.

ODOT gives Portland $75,000 for Bike Master Plan

Just got some great news from ODOT Government Liaison Shelli Romero. She says the City of Portland will receive a $75,000 Transportation Growth Management Grant to be put towards our Bicycle Master Plan update.
