Local bike builder Tony Pereira is having a dream year.
Last winter he found a great new shop space near SE 24th and Belmont and in March he took home coveted trophies from the North American Handmade Bike Show for his gorgeous,”Roaring 29’er”, fillet-brazed, mountain bike.
A relative newcomer to Portland’s heralded framebuilding scene, Pereira has quickly established himself as one of the top builders in the country.
And now, things will get even better for the self-taught builder from Salt Lake City Utah Simsbury, Connecticut. He’s the subject of a “Gear Heroes” feature and the “Eye Candy” section in the August issue of Mountain Bike Magazine (which its publisher says is the #1 mountain bike mag in the nation based on a circulation of 155,000).

The mag features a short interview with Tony and hand-painted portrait by Michael Gamstetter on one page, and a shot of Tony and his now-famous mountain bike on the other.
It’s great to see another local builder doing so well (stay tuned for an update on Ira Ryan’s booming business).
Congrats Tony! I hope the phone is ringing off the hook.

Tony\’s site is waaay over bandwidth right now. We need an alternate term for \”slashdotted\” to describe what happens to local sites after getting written up in national magazines and promoted on bikeportland.org.
Hmm… Tony\’s site got \”bikeported\”?
BTW, Tony – congratulations, and I hope this means a booming and rewarding business for you!
He was a lot of fun to ride with during Scott\’s \”Ridiculous Singletrack Ride\” during Pedalpalooza. Way to go Tony!
Nice work Tony!
\”from Salt Lake City, Utah\”? I know where you\’re really from.. Congrats Tony.
And he races that 29\’r too!
Oh man…I haven\’t even seen this yet! Thanks Jonathan, you just crushed my website…end of month bandwidth blues.
You\’re right, things are going better than I ever could have dreamed. As the \”other Simsburyian\” points out, I\’m really from Simsbury, CT, but lived in Salt Lake for many years before coming to Portland. Thanks for everyone for the support. This has been an amazing year. I\’m getting goosebumps as I write. Back to the bench…-T
I believe he raced the \”Roaring 29er\” at the Portland MTB Short Track Series opener last Monday. Check out the 1min 30sec mark on this video: http://www.portlandracing.com/video.html
The Pear Rocks!
Nice work Icepick.
Awesome news, Tony:)
We miss you….
Passion. Talent. Drive. (A wealth of knowledge in ecomomics.) Tony\’s got it all… he deserves the spotlight too.
Nice work!
… and you owe me a beer (or six) ;-]
congrats!
Way to go Bro!!! they drew your sideburns perfectly!
Nice Job-
Pete
FYI, my web site is back up now!
Tony is the only (Pro) framebuilder that Zoobombs, on a freakbike that he built himself, of course.
A class act gets published, that is how it is supposed to work. Fine work Tony.
Way to go Tony. As a proud owner of one of Tony\’s early on 29r\’s (the Booberry) I\’m happy to hear that he continues to follow his passion with a vengence.
All the best….
