Corporations focus on local bike businesses

Two corporations have recently noticed a pair of small, Portland-based bike businesses.

Shaun Deller of Recyclist Apparel (maker of those stylish cycling caps you see all over town) is featured in a video produced by Nau (a clothing company) and Natalie Ramsland of Sweetpea Bicycles was selected by Hewlett Packard as a case study for their small business services.

Nau, which is based in northwest Portland, collaborated with filmmaker Daniel Sharp to create a day-in-the-life video of hat maker Shaun Deller.

They named the short film, “Recycled style” and added it to the “Collective” section of their website which features “passionate stories about movement, being moved, and inspiring the same in others.”

Framebuilder Natalie Ramsland has been made part of HP’s “What do you have to say?” campaign, that’s “about empowering people and businesses to help share their stories.”

Both Sweetpea and Deller have sold their wares (Natalie also makes cycling mittens and other cool stuff) at my BikeCraft events. You can meet both of them and buy their stuff at BikeCraft III coming to Lucky Lab NW on November 15!

    Hey, thanks for the write up Jonathan. Its one thing to put in the hours at the shop brazing, filing, and finishing; and another to find out that a huge company noticed and wants to help tell the story. We were frankly a little surprised that they picked up on us, but if it helps spread the word about bikes and Portland then all the better.

    Congratulations to Natalie for such great exposure. I especially appreciated her comment supporting car-free thinking.

    I'm really glad to see her recognized for her abilities irrespective of gender. And yet it's great to know - and palpably feel - that Portland supports her in yet another male-dominated field.

    Now, if I could only find a woman to play chess with ...

    Awesome! I love all the clips of Shaun riding around and sorting through the bins, and the shot of Natalie firing up the blow torch is bad ass!

    Wow, it is great to see small local businesses get attention. Getting such exposure by notible companies like Nau and HP is kind of promotion that money just can't buy! Most small businesses would kill for such great exposure (mine included)! Congrats to both, the bikes and hats are great!
