‘The Bicycle City’ documents the power of bicycles

– Watch trailer below-
We all know the myriad benefits of bicycling (whether you ride them or not), but it’s not often that the power of this simple invention to fundamentally change lives is told by people who aren’t advocates or politicians.
Greg Sucharew is a documentary filmmaker working on a project to do just that.
Greg got in touch with us a few days to tell us about his current project, The Bicycle City (watch trailer below). The film is about the transformative power bicycles have had on the impoverished, war-torn town of Rivas, Nicaragua. Here’s more from Sucharew:
Molalla hit and run victim dies, police still searching for suspect

(Photo: Oregon State Police)
67-year old Thomas Mossman died yesterday morning at OHSU. Mossman is the victim of a March 22nd hit-and-run that happened on Highway 211 just west of Molalla (about 30 miles south of Portland) on March 22nd. Mossman was riding his bike on the shoulder of the highway when he was hit. The Oregon State Police (OSP) are still looking for the person who drove their vehicle into Mossman and fled the scene.
Yesterday, Mossman’s daughter issued a statement about the tragedy:
“My family and I have been devastated today because my father died from severe injuries caused by a hit & run driver. We are extremely grateful to the staff at OHSU for doing everything possible. We ask the public to please help the police find the person responsible for running him down with their vehicle and killing him.”

Burglary at West End Bikes this morning
West End Bikes, the new shop that just opened at the beginning of February on the corner of SW Stark and 11th in downtown Portland, was broken into this morning. Shop owner Mark Ontiveros tells us that it happened at about 3:00 am and the thief made out with a bunch of products and luckily, just one bicycle.
According to Ontiveros, the thief grabbed a large Mission Workshop “Vandal” backpack, stuffed it with u-locks, blinky lights, and handfuls of Oakley sunglasses. Then, using bolt-cutters, the thief clipped into a row of high-end Specialized bikes and took one to use as a getaway vehicle.
