Weekend Event Guide – Updated!

Spring has arrived in Portland and there’s no better way to enjoy the sights and sun than on a bike (at least in my unbiased opinion 😉 ).

Check out some ride and event suggestions below and share your plans in the comments.

Enjoy the weekend!

Friday, April 1st

6:00 – 9:00 pm: First Friday Art By Bike
Join Pedal Bike Tours for a free guided bike tour of Southeast Portland art galleries. Meets at their shop on 133 SW Second Ave downtown.

7:00 – 11:00 pm: Rise Again Japan
This art show features lots of bike-inspired arts and crafts. 100% of proceed goes to Japan disaster victims.

Saturday, April 2nd

10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Safe Routes to School Spring Kick-Off
There will be lots of activities and fun for the entire family at the City of Portland’s Safe Routes To School Spring Kick-Off. Roll over to Beach School in North Portland for all the action.

Saturday – Sunday: Bike Camping at Scaponia Park
Join the excellent folks from Cycle Wild on this fun adventure. It’s a 44 mile ride with 20 of it on the carfree Banks-Vernonia Trail. Group leaves at 9:00 am from the Hillsboro Starbucks near the Hatfield Government Center MAX station.

4:00 pm: Tweed Ride, Vice Edition
Put on your best tweed/vintage attire and join other ladies and gentleman for what promises to be a memorable affair. Remember, this is the “Vice” themed of the two Tweed rides, so families be forewarned. Meets at the wharf, NW Front and 18th.

Sunday, April 3rd

All day: Spring Brake Super D at Sandy Ridge
The final in this new downhill mountain bike race series being held at Sandy Ridge. Conditions should be perfect!

4:00 – 9:00pm: Bike to Blazers
Join us to support the Portland Trail Blazers and encourage bicycling to the Rose Garden at the annual Bike to Blazers. You can hook up with one of several group rides leaving from neighborhoods throughout Portland. Whether you get tickets or not, join the pre-game fun at the southern end of the Rose Quarter campus near the fountain!

8:30 pm: Zoobomb
If you’ve ever wanted to try out Zoobomb, this Sunday would be a great first time. In addition to warmer spring weather up on the hill, the BBC (yes, the BBC) will be in attendance filming for an upcoming show. Zoobomb regulars are hoping for a big turnout to show the U.K. how Portland rolls. Meet at 13th and Burnside.

Thanks to everyone who came out for bike camping this month! This month’s campers were truly hardcore – Cycle Wild’s string of unusually kind weather in off-season trips came to an end with us getting hailed on not once, but three times. During the ride, we had bands of rain alternating with bright, warm sun. During the rainy parts, we had rain, hail, a little sleet, and at one point actual snow.

I think Mother Nature might have taken her revenge for the gorgeous weather on the December, January and February trips!

Apparently, the cyclist on the left feels that he is above the law and/or centerlines do not apply to him.
