Closure of Leif Erikson road in Forest Park begins Monday

Portland Parks & Recreation has released details of a closure to Leif Erikson Road in Forest Park that begins this coming Monday (9/13) and is estimated to last four weeks.

Heavy rains back in June caused a landslide that resulted a part of the popular road to fall down the hillside. Parks had already planned to replace a culvert in that area so now the plan is to bring in the heavy equipment and get the job done. Unfortunately, in order to bring in their heavy equipment and trucks, the entire trail will be closed temporarily from Milepost 7 to Milepost 11 (at NW Germantown Road) to all users.

This is unfortunate timing given that it’s cyclocross season. Parks is aware of the popularity of Leif Erikson and they made a point in a statement to say, “The City’s contractor may also work seven days a week to finish the repairs as quickly as possible.”

I’ve pasted a map of the closure below (download PDF here):

The project will replace the existing culvert, stabilize the hillside, and rebuild a section of the roadway. The many trails that intersect Leif Erikson will remain open during the project, but users should exercise caution when crossing the road.

This would not have been a problem in the early days of cyclocross, in fact it would have been welcome.

These days, it’s just wankers from Lake Oswego with $2000 carbon fiber wheelsets doing cyclocross.

So I suppose this means that the radical rapists of the land who call themselves single trackers will use this as an excuse to forge illegal and destructive trails through the forest.

Another friggin Obama repair job keeping us down. Another friggin single tracker attempt to destroy our pristine park. Friggin conspiracy.

You can sure tell it’s the run-up to an election season. The first posters on each of the boards have all got their hackles up.

@1 Tom,

so what if it is “just wankers from Lake Oswego with $2000 carbon fiber wheelsets doing cyclocross.”

Did you ask them where they were from or are you just projecting. If they can afford such things, who are you to judge? You should be thankful they are putting money into the local cycling community.

The jealousy level people have for residents of lake oswego is always amusing to me.
