City offers free tune-ups and Safe Routes to School trainings this month

The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation does a lot more than than just build bike infrastructure. They also have one of the best Safe Routes to Schools programs in the country and they do a bunch of free, bike-related outreach all year. Below are four events that you should take advantage of this month:

Safe Routes Discussions and Trainings

    Wednesday January 13th from 10:00-11:30am
    Panel Discussion: Promoting Active Transportation at School
    East Portland Community Police Center (737 SE 106th Ave)
    Come engage in lively conversation and hear from three experienced school champions about successes and lessons learned in promoting walking and biking at their schools.

Free Bike Tune-Ups for Students and Families

    “Have you been meaning to oil your bike chain or replace your brake pads? Does your flat bike tire need to be changed but you just don’t have the tools or the time to do it? Now is your chance!”
    Saturday January 9 from 8:30am-2:00pm

Holy mackerel! Could they do something a little… [I] closer [/I] to town?!? LOL not sure how I’m going to get my flat tire bike well over a hundred blocks on a flat tire. 🙂

I’m just bein’ funny not seriously bashing. I plan on heading to my Downtown Portland neighborhood Bike Gallery to fix my flat in a couple days.

I sent a pained note to the city on language abuse, without checking for responses here. Attack it from two directions, I guess. I make typos on e-mails (and postings like this), but I damned well catch them before I upload them to my own web site.
