Springwater set for repaving, expect closures

The Portland Parks & Recreation Department has received an Oregon Recreational Trails Grant to rehabilitate a section of the Springwater Corridor Trail that has long been in need of repair.

The $47,000 grant was one of 15 projects to from across the state to receive funding and will go towards repaving the trail from SE 82nd to SE 92nd Avenues.

If the weather holds, the work will begin tomorrow (6/7) and run through Friday (6/9) and the trail will be closed until 4:30pm.

Portland Parks has posted a PDF of a suggested detour on their website.

That’s a really crappy detour, mainly because of the 82nd leg of the trip. Flavel and 92nd are a lot calmer, and have bike lanes, so that’s realistic, but riding on 82nd here would be only advisable to those with a death wish. (As a comparison, consider riding SE 39th from Hawthorne to Burnside, on a car-riffic Saturday afternoon–have fun!)

Fortunately I live right near there, so I can just take Flavel to 92nd, but am a little surprised they would seriously suggest 82nd as a viable option to people.
