Section of Willamette Greenway Trail will close for rest of summer

Posted by Jonathan Maus (Editor) on July 14th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

A stream restoration project will close a portion of the Willamette Greenway Trail from the beginning of August through late October.

A detour has been devised that takes trail users to the east sidewalk of SW Macadam Avenue. BES also says “bicyclists will be encouraged to walk their bikes, yield to pedestrians, and travel at a slow speed through the detour”.

The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services has released the map/graphic above and has published more information on the closure and the detour on their website.

Annoying, but welcome news - that portion of the Willamette Greenway Trail frequently suffers closures due to flooding. The drainage in the area is substandard since the natural creeks and streams were channelized underneath the roads. Hopefully BES will fix the problem, or at least minimize it and make it a better place both for us and the salmon.
