Jeff Bernards’ “Get Lit” program continues to inspire other cities to give out free lights to cyclists.

A few weeks ago, I shared the news that a similar program has cropped up in Missoula, Montana. Now, the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) have adopted a similar program they call “Light on!”

Here’s more from the Sacramento Bee newspaper:

“To promote safe cycling, a handful of volunteers with the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates stood at 21st and K streets to flag down cyclists without lights and hand out the battery-operated lights…SABA modeled its giveaway program after a similar one in Portland, Ore., which has distributed more than 1,500 light sets, SABA organizers say.”

Get Lit was originally made possible by Shift and has been recently taken over by the Community Cycling Center.

ah Sacramento . . . truly pissing into the wind. Sadly, I'll be spending Christmas there.
