Come join the Pedal PT crew tomorrow (Tuesday) morning for our Monthly FREE COFFEE for Bicyclists Event!

What: Free Coffee for Bicyclists, pedestrians and passers by with Pedal PT. Coffee From K&F Roasters, our neighbor on the corner of SE 26th and Clinton.
When: Tuesday, 2/23 7am until 9:30am
Where: SE 25th and Clinton
Why: At Pedal PT, we’ve been doing these monthly Free Coffee events for bike commuters now for over 3 years, and our office looks forwards to it every month, as a fun way to give back to the cycling community that gives us so much back!

JOB OVERVIEW: The Sales Associate position handles and learns day-to-day processes in bicycle retail at Western Bikeworks – keying transactions, returns and exchanges, and handling escalated issues. This position provides guidance on the usage and suitability of the products we sell.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Operate store Point of Sale equipment
• Assist customers with product selection by spending the time to learn about the customer’s needs and then suggesting appropriate product to satisfy those requirements. This will extend (but not be limited) to bicycle selection and sizing, nutrition selection, and accessory selection
• Provide higher than expected (by the customer) customer service including but not limited to assisting with removal of bicycles from their vehicle, searching all possible avenues for special order or out of stock product, expediting all service and transactions as much as possible, and hand writing thank you cards
• Prepare the retail store for normal operations at opening time (lights, signage, setup PCs, etc) and handle End of Day procedures
• Assist with the setup and teardown of marketing events at the store (movie premieres, vendor presentations, etc)
• Work on receiving, placing product on the floor, store cleanliness, etc. at the discretion of the store manager
• Answer incoming phone calls and respond to incoming customer email
• Has basic level mechanic capabilities (change a flat tire, operate quick release)
• Prepare and serve Coffee and Alcohol in accordance with store policy and OLCC service laws

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• No specific formal education is required
• A bicycle background is a must
• Must be computer literate

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Solid knowledge of cycling products
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication
• Ability to be an advocate for cycling in the local community

JOB OVERVIEW: The Mechanic position is often a key component in “Empowering people to achieve their bike-related goals in whatever form they may take.” This role is literally the barrier for many of our customers in getting back on the road, and as such must be prepared to fully investigate the customer’s needs, find efficient solutions to their problems, and own the customer experience from the moment a repair is checked-in until the moment the customer is back on the road.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Provide higher than expected (by the customer) customer service including but not limited to assisting with removal of bicycles from their vehicle, searching all possible avenues for special order or out of stock product, expediting all service and transactions as much as possible, and able to refrain from offering an opinion on the quality of the customer’s bike
• Operate store Point of Sale equipment
• Assess customer’s bikes for indicated problems and generate an accurate financial and time estimate for repairing the issue to the customer’s satisfaction
• Familiar with all aspects of bicycle technologies, including but not limited to
o Di2
o Campagnolo
o SRAM Red eTap
o Hydraulic Disk Brakes
o Front and rear suspension
• Able to troubleshoot appropriate solutions for systems that do not have readily available replacement parts
• Willing to have service quality held to a checklist of required services for completion of a given type of service
• Prepare the service area for normal operations at opening time and handle End of Day procedures including cleaning up work station and ensuring all continuing work is communicated appropriately
• Answer incoming phone calls and respond to incoming customer email

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
• Able to assist on the sales floor when required
• Comfortable transitioning a customer to other appropriate staff members when needed
• Interested in providing gratis repair or safety checks at community-support events

Portland’s creative bike shop employees are at it again

Yes I’m very biased, but I honestly think Portland has the most creative and interesting bike shop owners in the country.

I mean, seriously: We’ve got a bike shop that runs out of a converted yellow school bus (that’s been painted purple); a shop that actually promotes other bike shops and will issue you a library card to checkout saddles before you buy one; a shop that was the first in America to import dutch cargo bikes (thus sparking a nationwide craze); a shop that has created a following for their brilliant newspaper ads, and a shop that has become famous worldwide for its unique blend of welcoming attitude, bar offerings, and bike collection. And I could go on and on.

And now the trend continues thanks to two shops who have mastered video marketing: 21st Avenue Bicycles and Well Tuned Fast (WTF) Bikes.
