🚨 Please note that BikePortland slows down during this time of year as I have family in town and just need a break! Please don't expect typical volume of news stories and content. I'll be back in regular form after the new year. Thanks. - Jonathan 🙏
About 30 or so people met on the Eastbank Esplanade for the Hott Sock II ride.
Sporting all manner of fun and funky socks, we rode down to Sock Dreams in Sellwood. When we rolled up, Sock Dreams staff and owners led us in the sock games. There was beer, sock prizes, and much more. After the Sock Dreams retail store stop in Sellwood, the ride continued to the Sock It To Me (a local sock brand) warehouse location off the Springwater Corridor near Johnson Creek. At the warehouse, more games and shenanigans (and beer and food and candy) ensued.
Check out the slideshow below for more of the faces and socks that were seen on the ride:
I met up with Portland’s Museum Lady and Queen of Bike Fun, Carye Bye, for one of her lauded Museum by Bike rides. The theme was Hollywood (she knows every museum in the city so there’s always got to be a theme). About 8 of us met at the Hollywood Theater (and I ran into Marilyn Monroe on my way there) and our first stop was Movie Madness Video Store in Southeast.
At Movie Madness, owner Mike Clark gave us the deluxe tour of his amazing collection of Hollywood memorabilia. He’s got outfits and props from all types of famous movies and he loves talking about them.
After Movie Madness, the group went to visit Carye’s Bathtub Art Museum and then to the Movie Marvel Museum on NE Alberta.
Check out the photos below for a few shots from the ride:

Hope everyone is enjoying Pedalpalooza. I just wanted to forward on a note regarding the Kickoff Parade last night.
When I got home from the ride I was greeted with a voice mail and an email from a women who was in Irving Park with her dog when the ride rolled up (we ended at Irving and hung out before everyone dispersed):
thanks for ending your ride in the Irvington dog park, during dog hours, leaving garbage, destroying grass and telling me to fuck off when i asked nicely “what time your event was ending” so me and my neighbors could share the in the restrictive summer dog hours. With all the rain we all need some out side time. Please speak with your large groups your creating about shared space.
Irvington resident
Just a reminder to be kind to others as it reflects on the entire Pedalpalooza event. Thanks!

Southeast Portlanders and well-wishers from all over town helped welcome a new bike shop to the neighborhood last night. Splendid Cycles, a new shop on SE Belmont at 14th that specializes in cargo bikes, held its opening night bash.
The HUB Beer Bike by Metrofiets was on hand to provide music and cold beer and a crowd that included owner Joel Grover’s dad, friends of Joel and his wife Barb, and cargo bike enthusiasts, took a closer look at what Splendid has to offer.
At about 7:10 this morning, a person on a bike was struck and seriously injured by someone driving a car on SE Division at 110th (in front of Bike Gallery). Following the collision, the person in the car fled and was later apprehended by police.
The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team responded to the collision and eyewitnesses reported 8-10 patrol cars on the scene. The westbound lanes of Division were closed while an investigation was carried out. Traffic Division Lieutenant Bryan Parman confirmed for me a few minutes ago that, after an initial search with the K-9 unit to find the person driving the car was unsuccessful, they now have a suspect in custody and are questioning them for more details.

One of the fringe benefits of living in a healthy bike ecosystem is that bike-inspired art is all around us. On that note, a few items have crossed my desk recently that I though were worth sharing.
The first is a photo exhibition coming to Charles A. Hartman Fine Art (134 NW 8th Ave). Pedaling: Bicycle Photographs From Then to Now is a survey of photographs spanning 125 years. “In celebration of summer and the vibrant cycling community in the gallery’s hometown of Portland,” Hartman has put together an impressive collection for this show. The exhibition features work from such noted artists as: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Antonin Gribovsky, Shinsaku Izumi, André Kertész, Herman Landshoff, Nathan Lerner, and others. Here’s more to whet your appetite:
