Seven adults, nine kids, and at least a dozen plush companions set out on nine bikes on a sunny afternoon to seek adventure.
After a half-hour’s play time and getting-to-know-you at the Abernathy school playground, the riders headed south to Powell park, where they snacked on peanut butter and jelly finger sandwiches and mini strawberry shortcakes, both delicacies of teddy bear cuisine. Highlights of this stop included swings, mud, and a three month old beagle puppy named Dexter. Also at this stop, several more riders decided to follow the lead of the ride leaders in attaching stuffed friends to their helmets.
After a long snack and play break, the merry picnicers wound uphill and northward to Sewellcrest Park, where they found the play area packed. Moms and dads got to do lots of chatting about their family biking setups, while kids enjoyed the very tall slide and the merry-go-round. The youngest rider, Jasper, got to enjoy a long swing while pushed by his new friend Everett.
Rather than loop back as planned, each family headed to other destinations from this point. But that’s the life of a bikey family on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon: lots of places to go.
