We’re excited to announce the first in what we hope are many BikePortland Get Togethers. The first one is happening this Tuesday (2/3) in St. Johns (details below).
The idea behind these new events is simple. We want to meet up with you off-line and give you an opportunity to connect with your neighbors for a lively discussion about local bike issues.
Anyone who lives, works, commutes, or otherwise spends time in the neighborhood is invited to join us.
Each month we’ll hold one in a different part of the city and we’ll bring in folks who are involved in the local bike scene to help kickstart the conversation.
Do you have ideas about how to improve biking on the St. Johns Bridge? What is the status of on-street bike parking in downtown? What are the safe and family-friendly bike routes through the neighborhood? Is Weir’s Cyclery really the oldest bike shop in Portland? What does PBOT have planned for St. Johns? These, and all other topics are fair game for discussion.
We hope you’ll spread the word and join us on Tuesday night. Please note: This is our first Get Together, so we’ve kept things as simple as possible. As always, we are open to your feedback.
Here are the details:
- BikePortland Neighborhood Get Together: St Johns

And when is the Beaverton/Tigard/Sherwood versions
Incidentally, for the St John’s-curious, this weekend there’s an Easy Riders group fun ride up to explore the neighborhood. Check it out.
Do you happen to have a “Get Together” planned for outer SE? I would love to meet up with some fellow commuters from my neck of the woods and see their opinions about some conditions out here.
OOO! OOO!
Vantucky!
Hey all,
We definitely plan to hit a lot of different neighborhoods with these. Sellwood, Cully, Lents, and Multnomah Village are all high on our list for the first part of the year.
If you live in a particular neighborhood and would like to help host one of these, get in touch — elly at bikeportlanddotorg
thanks for the feedback so far. at this point, we’re open to our next location.
what have already decided that we’ll focus on places far from the inner NE/SE and downtown core for now.
outer SE, SW, downtown Vancouver… those are all possibilities.
Sad! I live in St Johns but I can’t come Tuesday! Let us know how it goes!!
Great idea! I’ll be there when you get within range of Brentwood-Darlington.
I’m with E, live there but can’t make it (it’s my yoga night in SW, sorry). Thanks for scheduling it up our way though, and I hope it’s well attended.
does outer SW include Beaverton? It is as much a part of the metro area as Vancouver.
Woo-hoo! Getting tanked in the John!
I know an early start time is good for people who gotta get home for dinner with the kids. Even so, those of us who have to work downtown till at least 5 won’t be able to commute to outer quadrants till 5:45 at the earliest. Maybe next time consider 5:30-7:30 start time…
See you there!
Hey Esther,
I know it says it ends at 7, but if folks are having a good time there’s no reason it needs to end then.
Aw… Damn…
Beaverton’s BTC meeting is that night…
Well if you want to actually do something civic minded you can come join us at the Beaverton City Hall.
6:30pm City Council Chambers
2/3/9.
Yay for Cully. That’s my hood, so I’ll make it to that one. I like this idea a lot.
