With public consciousness of high gas prices at all-time high and with a noticeable rise in bike traffic on Portland streets, some local businesses are flying their bike-friendly flags by offering special discounts to lure human-powered customers.
There are many businesses throughout Portland that offer special perks for their bike-riding clientele (who can forget the bike-thru window?). Here are two I’ve come across recently.

and Division.

The first is from Sckavone’s Restaurant at SE 41st and Division. Reader Greg Raisman sent in this photo of the sign outside their door. Looks like they’re offering a healthy 20% discount on Mondays and Tuesdays if you ride your bike.
I love the bit of added oomph given to their sign: “… for those who ride their bikes! Yeah!”
Biker discounts at restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops are nothing new, but I was surprised when I walked into ReStore (66 SE Morrison) — a re-used building supply and materials store — the other day and say this:
What I liked about the biker discount at ReStore is how the cardboard signs seemed so hastily put up; it was as if they were eager to capitalize on all the two-wheeled traffic they noticed on the bike lanes and streets around their store. I also liked the wording on the signs which included things like,
“Bike Riders get 10% off — so ride your bike here”
“Save Gas, Save Money, Look Sexy on your Bike”
“Ride in, Save $, Ride Home, Repeat”
“10% off — but only if you’re a Biker”
I guess they figure if you can carry a door or a few gallons of paint home on your bike you deserve a little discount.
______
Have you noticed any other biker discounts in your neighborhood?

Ooh. Queen Bee! I need a new wallet …
The other neat bike news I heard this morning was that Barack Obama is looking forward to having some family time this weekend … he\’s planning on a date night with his wife and taking a bike ride with his kids.
That ReStore ad looks like a take-off of a previous Encore ad you ran – looks like a loyal bikeportland reader! Very cool.
Shh! Don\’t tell people about Sckavone\’s! I don\’t want people to find out how awesome it is so\’s I don\’t have to wait for a table!
Concentrates Inc (They sell chicken food and fertilizer, (and probably some other stuff too, but that is what I buy there)) has a 10% discount for bicyclists. But it is in 50 lb bags, so bring your trailer or Mundo or some really good baskets…

Nice! now if only the moronic city counsel and police chief in North Plains would get a clue as to the economic power of cyclists…
but I digress…

thanks jonathan, from Black Sheep Bakery!
our new location at 523 NE 19th Ave (between Glisan & Irving) has 2 shiny, new staples for our bikey patrons.
special offers coming soon!
REI used to have a card, you ride in, make a purchase, you get a punch… ten punches, you get a discount or was it $10.00… something.
They stopped doing it about 2 years ago 🙁
What really sucked, I had 8 punches.
HAWWWT! That is awesome! I am really tickled when businesses step up like this.
The Little Red Bike Cafe (4823 N. Lombard St.) gives a 50 cent discount on drinks to folks who ride to get their fix (dropping the price of a small coffe to only 50 CENTS!).
They also have a bike-thru window when the days are warm and sunny.
Staccato Gelato has a Frequent Biker card– like a regular coffee card but it\’s only valid if you arrive by bicycle.
