Billing it as an, “event to celebrate Portland’s new ‘Green Space’,” the City of Portland’s Office of Transportation has just announced details of a press event next week that will draw attention to their first installation of a series of bike safety improvements around the city.

The event will be held at Clever Cycles (908 SE Hawthorne), just a few blocks from where the city’s first bike box went in last weekend.

Expected to make an appearance are City Commissioner (and mayoral hopeful) Sam Adams, State Rep. Jackie Dingfelder, and Metro Councilor Rex Burkholder. Also slated for debut at the event will be a new video commissioned by PDOT and produced by Grapheon Design (whose creative director Matt Giraud was one of the founding members of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance).

The short, 2-3 minute video will reportedly give a basic primer on the what and why of bike boxes and will be another part of PDOT’s extensive education campaign.

very nice… thanks for telling us about it. I liked the Street Films video on NYC Bike Boxes, but I hope this new one sets the standard for Portland\’s bike box videos. Will the Sprokettes be starring in it? (are you reading this, Tyler?)
