Salary Range: $16-19/hour

General
The Transportation Policy Advocate will be an integral part of the CLF’s policy analysis and advocacy team- including public policy analysis, coalition building, developing consensus among regional partners, and decision-maker lobbying. Specifically, the transportation policy advocate will focus on carrying out the Coalition’s Shift the Balance Campaign, which is focused on influencing two key regional transportation decisions: Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan Update and the Columbia River
Crossing Project.

The Transportation Policy Advocate will report to the CLF Co-Directors and work closely with an Americorps intern assigned to work on the Shift the Balance Campaign

Organization Background
Founded in 1994, CLF is a coalition of 90 organizations working together to create communities in the
Portland-Vancouver area that are healthy for people and the environment. CLF includes highly
respected and effective organizations such as 1000 Friends of Oregon, Audubon Society of Portland,
Community Development Network, Oregon Food Bank, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, Bicycle
Transportation Alliance and many others. Through research, policy advocacy, and public education,
CLF works to create and preserve affordable housing; protect clean water; preserve open space,
wildlife habitat and farmland; create living wage jobs; provide real transportation choices; and end
hunger in our community.

Responsibilities
Policy Analysis
• Attend government agency committee meetings, representing CLF;
• Track decisionmaking process of Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan Update and the Columbia River Crossing Project;
• Analyze policy documents;

Advocacy
• Work with CLF directors and CLF member organizations to identify key advocacy opportunities, and develop and carry out advocacy strategies;
• Meet with key decisionmakers to convey CLF’s policy positions;
• Draft policy position statements in support of key policy directions;
• Serve as a spokesperson, when appropriate; Public Education & Outreach
• Provide assistance in development of public education materials as assigned;
• Plan CLF public and member forums as assigned;
• Respond to information requests;
• Prepare content for CLF website and email listserves relevant to transportation campaign.
• Develop collaborations as appropriate for meeting programmatic objectives;
• Create and outreach materials, including presentations, visuals, and educational materials;

Fundraising
• Assist with fundraising activities to support the position.
