Castelli, a designer and maker of high-end cycling apparel is setting up shop in Portland. The global company, based in Milan Italy, previously had their U.S. operations in Minneapolis, MN. The new operation should be up and running by December.
Eighteen months ago, Nike employee Greg Cowan took partial ownership in the company. Cowan lives in the Portland area and wants the company to be closer to home.
Castelli joins a long list of Portland-based bike companies.
I have fond memories of Castelli clothing. They made my very first racing team kit back in 1995. Our team thought it was so cool to have Italian clothing with the word “squadra” (Italian for “team”) on our sleeves. Combined with our very-Euro Briko sunglasses, we were super stylin’!

Went to your Portland-based companies list. Kinesis isn’t on there; aren’t they Portland based?
Michael,
Yes, Kinesis is Portland-based. They own Mountain Cycle and in my brain I consider them one and the same…but perhaps I should separate them just to be accurate.
To clarify, Kinesis makes bikes for several other brands and Mountain Cycle is a stand-alone brand.
They’re in the same building but they are separate businesses although I think most people refer to them as Mountain Cycle/Kinesis.
Thanks for the input!
