Bike Farm plans grand opening block party

Bike Farm is a non-profit, member-supported bike shop based in Northeast Portland. The group launched their services back in November and now they’re ready to spread their wings and celebrate a successful first six months.
Since November, Bike Farm has achieved official non-profit status and has served the community through weekly “open shop” hours, maintenance classes, and educational workshops.
Jennifer Collins, Bike Farm’s community outreach coordinator, says the grand opening event will be a “community block party” that will include interactive booths, food, local bands, beer, and educational workshops.

“Through this event we hope to promote bicycling as an accessible, easy to maintain, and environmentally sustainable means of transportation. Our goal is to promote Bike Farm as a vehicle for cost-effective and easy bike maintenance.”
Currently located in a detached garage in the Alberta Arts neighborhood, Collins says she hopes this event helps Bike Farm find new members so they can eventually afford a move to a larger, and more permanent, location.

A non-profit bike shop founded by hot bikey girls - how cool is that?? ;)
In addition to funds, are you looking for bike/parts donations (or maybe office supplies)? I have a smaller frame and parts from failed attempts trying to build a bike for my roommate, who has a birth defect in her right hand. It's incredibly difficult to find shifters in alternative configurations; I'm thinking a grip shift on the right for a front triple and a RapidFire on the left for the rear dérailleur might work for her. Anywhoo, I digress.

Alberta's Art Hop is that day, and wow, Alberta is pretty darn close to Bike Farm! The Bike Farm people are really cool, and they're doing fabulous work - head on by on your way to or from the Art Hop!
I look forward to seeing what other cool classes and programs they come up with - Bike Farm even did a bike touring class recently (which sadly I could not attend)
Speaking of, Shawn and Ian will be doing a touring class at Hawthorne Hostel on May 10th - another worthy bunch of people, and an event everyone should consider attending!

Hi. Here in Minneapolis we have The Hub Bike Co-op, and it is a fantastic shop for all who cycle, racers, commuters, whoever. It rules, and you three are gonna rule too!!! Good Luck! I'll be keeping tabs on your progress on bikeportland, Keith from Mpls.
