Blumenauer to hold bike roundtable in Portland

U.S. Congressman (and former Portland City Commissioner) Earl Blumenauer will be in City Hall next Tuesday to host a roundtable discussion with local bike advocates and insiders.
He wants to get an update on the latest bicycle activities and programs in Portland and learn about the results from the 2007 Oregon legislative session.
In addition, Blumenauer plans to share the latest on his progress to push the pedals on bike issues at the federal level. He recently got his Bike Commuter Benefits Act into the Energy Bill and is a driving force behind an effort to "Green the Capitol" by encouraging bike use and improving bike facilities.
Expected to attend the meeting are staff from the City of Portland, researchers from Portland State University, advocates from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and members of the local bicycle industry.

It\'s definitely not off-limits... but the meeting is being held in a relatively small room and Earl has specifically invited several people already (like folks from the BTA, Sam\'s Office,bike planning types, PSU, PDOT, etc...) so seating is very limited.
as far as I know, it\'s not meant as a big, public open house, but it\'s not a closed-door session either.
RecommendedIt would be nice to Earl deal with the issues of community relations at our local police department....As bicycle friendly Portland is, our police department is not. One would think that a city that promotes a Progressive bicycle lifestyle would be more flexible in its policies, and not look like its out to persecute thoughs who have made Portland look so desirable as a living community....Fromers (travel guide)designated Portland the # 1 travel destination in the world for 2007. I wonder what they would think of Portland Police stings singling out bicyclist failure to come to a complete stop at stop signs ($242. Ticket). Doesn\'t sound very bike friendly, say nothing about police relations with the Portland community
