Candi Murray has been nominated for a place in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

Candi is considered by many to be the heart and sole of the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association. For 25 years she has been a devoted and tireless volunteer as OBRA has become one of the largest and most respected racing organizations in the country.

In 2006, OBRA had over 3000 registered racers (the highest per capita in the nation).

Selection to the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame is done by voting of members and ballots go out next week. If she gets the nod, she’ll be the first person ever honored from the sport of cycling.

Candi is no stranger to accolades. In 2003 she received an Alice B. Toeclips Award and she was nominated again in 2007. She’s a fixture on the local race scene, where she is joined by her husband and fellow tireless OBRA leader Mike Murray.

Last fall, Candi announced that this would be hear last year at the helm of OBRA. A place in the Hall of Fame would be a fitting end to her outstanding career and service to improve and develop bike racing in Oregon.

I've met Candi several times at Alpenrose and PIR and she is very much the motherly figure to many of the racers. I just hope whomever takes the helm after her can do even half as well as she.

If ever there was a case for cloning, Candi would be it.

VERY deserved! You can read more about Candi's excellent work with OBRA on the ORbike blog, a piece I did with her back in October:
