It was a perfect night for a ride to the airport.
I’m a few minutes from taking off to DC and all is well. I wish I could say the same for my bike. Last time I saw it, the TSA agents were disemboweling it from its suitcase. I hope they repacked it well.
The folks at Bike Friday were kind enough to let me bring my tikit along for this trip as well. It was fun having it in San Jose and I’m looking forward to it even more in DC.
OK, boarding now. Stay tuned…

TSA always goes through my S&S bike case very thoroughly (as they should...) when I fly with it, but I've always been impressed at how careful they are to get everything back in place - especially given all the extra junk I stuff in there.
Did the airline try to stick you with a bike surcharge? Even though my travel case is standard size/weight luggage, once they find out it's a bike they always try to charge and extra $100 and then I have to argue with a manager...

that's ridiculous...
One time I was flying to Florida with my newly purchased wakeboard. I figured I'd keep it in the box to protect it during flight.
nope... nuhuh.... not gonna let you do that unless you pay me $75 said the airline. If it was in a wakeboard gear bag, that would have been acceptable.
So, while we were in Florida, we headed on over to Performance Ski & Surf shop and bought a wakeboard bag. That way we did not have to pay the $75 fee on the way back.
I learned from the airline counter attendants that skis and golf clubs and other "sporting goods" are acceptable at no extra charge--the airlines like the business they bring. Just think how things would be changed if everyone flew with their bicycles all of the time!
