Northeast Portland-based Express Copy, has stepped up to sponsor a professional women’s bike racing team.

Team ExpressCopy.com is a UCI licensed team that plans to take part in more than a hundred events in twelve different countries this season.

Their roster includes some of “the fastest women cyclists in the world” including former and current National Champions of the U.S. and Canada.

Scott Gerrie, manager of Team ExpressCopy.com is the son of a long-time friend of Express Copy’s CEO, Lee Dietz. I asked Lee why he’d sponsor a bike racing team:

“Scott was looking for a new sponsor so that he could expand his team and race in both North America and Europe. I thought this would be an excellent way to present our brand to our markets. I also thought it was appropriate because we are from Portland and Portland is called the bicycle capital of America.”

Next Wednesday (1/31), Team ExpressCopy.com, will hold a bike symposium for women (and all cycling fans) at the Multnomah Athletic Club (1849 SW Salmon Street). The event will feature a short speech by team member Anne Samplonius (current Canadian National Criterium Champion) and a bike clinic from the City of Portland’s Women on Bikes program.

[...] Although this is the site for Team Veloshop and all its antics, we thought it important to bring to your attention an exciting development in women’s professional cycling. As reported at Bikeportland , there is a new women’s professional cycling team in town, Team Expresscopy.com. The majority of professional cycling press is centered around men’s racing, so we thought it our duty to try to balance the scales. [...]

I think it's great to see a local company helping to promote women's cycling; way to go expresscopy.com. More importantly though, good luck to the team...it looks like they've got a well traveled season ahead of them.
