Here are BikePortland’s traffic stats from the month of December, 2009.

The most popular posts of the month included the report of a traffic court judge’s controversial and existential ruling about bike lanes which stirred up over 200 reader comments. Also popular was the report confirming the first decrease in city bike traffic counts in five years. Top five posts are listed below

October, 2009 site stats and top stories

Here are BikePortland’s traffic stats from the month of October, 2009.

The most popular post of the month (counted by page views using Google Analytics) was our story covering the Oregon Manifest Constructor’s Design Challenge. That was followed by the unusual mention of a story outside our region highlighting the death of a Texas couple while riding their tandem and the leniency given to the person who killed them due to limited rules on distracted driving.

Following on a lighter and long sustained note came the Hopworks Beerfiets story we published back in September which rattled around the web enough to place it as the third most popular post during October. In fourth was the Mayor’s proclamation of October 9th as Bicycle Messenger Appreciation Day following in the footsteps of San Francisco and Toronto. [Read more…]

July 2009 site stats and top stories

Here are BikePortland’s traffic stats from the month of July. Two of our stories — an editorial about the “Should Cyclists Pay a Road Tax?” ad on the MAX, and an article about a bid to convert the Memorial Coliseum into a venue for bike racing, were picked up and spread widely among local news media; our story about credit card fraud at an online retailer gained national attention.

Our third most popular story this month was actually posted in mid-June — the World Naked Bike Ride is, apparently, always news.

Finally, Jonathan’s story about a three-family bike camping trip he went on a few weeks ago was the sleeper story of the month, earning a lot of enthusiastic traffic and expanding the public view of just what’s possible with kids, and without a car.[Read more…]
