For some heroes, winning an Alice is
quite emotional.

There are just a few days left to nominate your bike hero for an Alice Award. The annual Alice Awards and Auction event hosted by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance is always a good time and it’s also a time to recognize the work of dedicated advocates from throughout Oregon.

The deadline to nominate your bike hero is this Saturday (1/22). The BTA will select three winners (over 30 people were nominated last year) and the announcement will be made at the big gala event on April 23rd.

This year, the BTA has announced a new “People’s Choice” award that will be given to the nominee who gets the most votes from the public. Voting for the People’s Choice award will open January 23rd and will run through February 19th.

Do you have a bike hero? There are a lot of people in this community who go above and beyond the call of duty to make bicycling better in our state. If you know of such a person, take a few minutes to nominate them. More details here.

I found it a bit strange that they wanted me to tell them the address of the person I was nominating. Phone number and email seem like they should be enough.

This is what I came up with at 4AM this morning… Please go to
http://www.bta4bikes.org/alice/nominate.php to fill in extra stuff that my overtired brain missed. Today is the last day to nominate someone.

THPRD’s Trails Advisory Committee has been working for many years to find ways of increasing the active lifestyle. By attending various meetings, public hearings, trail counts, and actively trying to recruit the public (bike rides, etc), they have managed to create a number of trails for the district.

The TAC has most recently been involved with the successful installation of bike lanes on SW Lombard in Beaverton. They were instrumental in the acceptance of the plans on completing the Rock Creek Trail, and extending the Fanno Creek Trail.

Members are actively looking for the resources necessary to create more trails for all users. They are often involved (on their own) with attending meetings with local, Metro, and State organizations in their pursuit of bike, pedestrian, and ADA transportation alternatives in (and out of) the district.
