Southeast Portlanders and well-wishers from all over town helped welcome a new bike shop to the neighborhood last night. Splendid Cycles, a new shop on SE Belmont at 14th that specializes in cargo bikes, held its opening night bash.
The HUB Beer Bike by Metrofiets was on hand to provide music and cold beer and a crowd that included owner Joel Grover’s dad, friends of Joel and his wife Barb, and cargo bike enthusiasts, took a closer look at what Splendid has to offer.
Grover is looking to be the go-to shop for cargo bikes from Metrofiets, Larry vs. Harry, and Joseph Ahearne’s new Cycle Truck. The way Grover sees it, there are plenty of Portlanders ready and will to replace their car (or one of their cars) with a high-quality cargo bike.
See more of the bikes and the crowd in the slideshow below and be sure to stop by Splendid Cycles next time you’re in the neighborhood.

Super glad that the Grovers had such a good turn-out. I wish them lots of success.
Great time, Great people, Great bikes! Its fantastic to have so many shops in Portland selling cargo bikes now. I love the variety.
It ain’t ’bout da speed or da spandex. It’s ’bout da LOAD.
So sorry I missed it…Best to you Joel and Barb! I’ll be in soon.
what? no snooty comments about their logo?
Wow, didn’t realize how expensive these cargo bikes are. I guess I shouldn’t feel so bad for spending so much on my fancy road bike.
Mike…but on a per pound basis…cargo bikes are cheaper than road bikes. 😉
How is this different from clever cycles?
