I just heard from a reader that maintenance crews (from ODOT) have painted over the stencil of Brett Jarolimek that was on the underpass at the intersection of N. Interstate and Greeley.
This doesn’t come as a complete surprise (after all, it was technically vandalism), but in a way I feel it’s too bad that it could not have been saved.
Come celebrate the opening of the Bike Farm!
Join us at 1303 NE Roselawn on Saturday, December 8 from 12-4pm to meet us and see our space!
Location: City Hall – 2nd Floor Lovejoy Room (1221 SW 4th Ave.)
We’ve got a great agenda prepared for next Tuesday’s BAC meeting. The first hour will be a joint BAC/PAC (Pedestrian Advisory Committee) meeting as the combined committees hear a presentation from Trimet on the Milwaukie Light Rail Line. This project offers signfiicant opportunities for bicycle and pedestrian travel in the region.
After that, the committees will split and the BAC meeting will continue with a discussion about using diversion as a tool for creating and maintaining conditions on bicycle boulevards, and a brief presentation from Emily Gardner from the BTA about the Burnside-Couch couplet.
Hope to see you next Tuesday!

Even though funding has now been approved and the political will exists to move forward, the Portland Office of Transportation (PDOT) still has a few wrinkles to iron out before installation begins on colored bike boxes and bike lanes that are slated for 14 dangerous intersections around the city.
PDOT is currently researching two issues: Whether these new intersection treatments should be blue or green; and what exactly is the legal standing of the bike box.
Last night, as part of a nearly $6 million surplus budget allocation process, Portland’s City Council approved $200,000 to fund bike safety improvements at 14 intersections.
These improvements include new, colored bike boxes and bike lanes at intersections found to be dangerous and in need of immediate treatment by Transportation Commissioner Sam Adams. The safety measures were fast-tracked in light of two fatal collisions and one serious injury collision back in October.
Adams’ transportation policy staffer Roland Chlapowski says the $200,000 includes some “contingency money” that would be used if the current projects on the table end up costing more than expected. On the other hand, he said that, “If we don’t use up that money we’ll probably be able to squeeze more projects out of it.”
Chlapowski also said that he is working on a large, more policy-oriented package to take to City Council in the next few weeks. I’ll have more on that soon, but you can expect it to include potential new equipment regulations for city trucks and several recommendations around community policing and the policy and practices of the Police Bureau.
The other day I met someone who claimed to have gotten more tickets while on their bicycle than anyone else in town. While I don’t think that’s anything to be proud of, I did think it was an interesting story and I was curious to know more.
I asked the person, who asked to remain anonymous, a few questions:
This just in from Portland Parks & Recreation:
