Lots of great bike adventures were had over the weekend:
Yet another Portlander experienced the power of bicycles and the community. Savannah Teller Brown asked for help with a bike move and a healthy crowd (of bike move veterans and newbies) showed up to assist. With all manner of trailers, panniers, bungee cords and straps, they pedaled her stuff from SE Ankeny, up to NE Sumner, where a Cinco de Mayo feast awaited. :: See photos from Dat and comic photos by Aaron.

And if you think bike moves are great gesture of community, how about this. A group of cyclists, that came together on the Portland Bike Forums, met up and swept up the I-205 bike path (from NE Glisan to SE Foster). Bill from Lents said,
“We received many comments such as “good job”, “thanks” and one “I feel guilty” Hopefully the 205 bike path is a bit cleaner and all will experience less flats along the route.”

Reader Greg Raisman and friends set off to explore the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway from Champoeg Park to Eugene. The two-day, 137-mile journey looked like a spectacular ride. ::Check out Greg’s photoset. ::Learn more about the route.

The Milwaukie Bike/Ped TSP meeting happened on Saturday morning. I’m sure Aaron and/or Matt will have photos and write-ups about that soon as well. Emily from the BTA was in attendance as well, which was awesome! Toward the end there were some really promising things being discussed.
It looks like there will be a third meeting added (only two were planned), and maybe even the creation of a Bike or Bike/Ped Advisory Committee for the City of Milwaukie. Wahoo!
After the TSP meeting, I helped a friend of mine go shopping for a bike. On the first day she started commuting by bike, her ride was stolen! She now has a lovely Kona Smoke…and a U-lock!
On Saturday, I rode the full century option of Ride Around Clark County for the first time (last year I aborted the century at the “point of no return” where you have to choose the outer loops or the metric – after 3 flats in 40 miles – damn those radial tire wires – and an unexpected downpour, I was in no mood for more than 62.5). This year the weather was more promising and I had just put on new tires, so I was all set for the full century. I rode to the start from my home in Ladd’s, so got an extra 25 miles in to boot! It was a great ride – they changed the course (not that I would have known) and added some more climbing and some reall quite sketchy descents – my favorite kind
Yesterday afternoon after the sun finally came out I went for a shorter (36 miles) series of hill climbs in the Council Crest neighborhood. Some nice little pitches there – Hessler was quite fun. . . .
Lots and lots of other riders out there, enjoying the roads and the sunshine
the bike move was soooo much fun! i can’t stop talking about it!
thanks for everyone’s help!
On Saturday, there was a “bicycling event” in Hillsboro out on Shute/Helvetia/Cornell/Brookwood area. Anybody got the scoop what it was about?
I was out at the Wa Co Fairgrounds at a non-bike event, and was curious about the bike event.
Kristen – That would have been the Hawthorn Farm AC triathlon/duathlon, methinks
I went on a birding bike ride with Barb Grover and Marjorie Morales from the Bike Gallery. We started at Kelly Point Park, my first trip there. I was amazed at the first two sightings from the parking lot – a western tanager and a Bullock’s oriole. We rode along the Columbia Slough and also saw a bald eagle, peregrine falcon, wood ducks and tons more. It was amazing!
I led a team in a randonneuring event called a “fleche”. We did 400 kilometers around Northwest Oregon in 24 hours. All four of us had a fantastic time. I designed the route to cover most of the roads that I wanted to explore this summer (Apiary, Alston-Mayger, and Nestucca). They were all awesome, perfect for biking, but now I need to figure out some new roads to go ride, otherwise what will I do all summer?
