SK Northwest, a Portland-based retailer of jet-skis and personal watercraft, has submitted another proposal to develop a key parcel of Willamette riverfront land.

The proposal was submitted to the Bureau of Development Services (BDS) on March 1st and once again, it does not include plans for a trail.

You might recall the long and winding saga of this company’s attempts to develop land on the Willamette riverfront just south of OMSI. I’ve covered the story extensively since breaking the news almost one year ago.

New class might mean more enforcement

riding along with Officer Hoesly

What red light?

Just a word of caution… this Wednesday (3/14) is the inaugural “Share the Road Safety Class.” This is the diversion class hosted by Trauma Nurses Talk Tough, that was recently made official and has been in the works since last June.

It was set up to educate cyclists (and others) about traffic laws and offer a way to have some bicycle-related citations dismissed.

I give caution, because Traffic Division officers are also aware of this class and they just might feel more inclined to seek and cite bicyclists who break the law.

A golden opportunity for Oregon cycling

Oregon has a golden opportunity to build two new velodromes, to further solidify our reputation as the premier state for cycling participation in the country, and to build lasting links between our elected officials and the one love we all share; bicycles.

All that’s missing is your voice encouraging legislators in Salem to support the Velodrome Bill.

National Bike Summit

[Me and Congressman Peter
DeFazio at the
National Bike Summit in 2006.]

My thoughts are turning to Washington D.C.

My journey to the National Bike Summit begins Monday night.

Last year the Summit was an amazing experience. I learned how bike advocacy happens at the highest levels of government, I watched (and learned from) real lobbying pros at work, I roamed the halls of Capitol Hill, met with members of Congress, and I even sent back reports and photos for all of you to enjoy and learn from.

A lot has happened in the past year and I’ll attend the Summit with a new set of eyes and much more experience than last year.
