The Community Cycling Center (CCC) plans to take over the popular Get Lit program, run by citizen activist Jeff Bernards since 2003.

The plan is “still in the works” according to the CCC’s Alison Hill, who also says,

“We’re excited about the opportunity to continue Get Lit. It’s a great program and it makes sense for us because bike safety is a central component of our mission.”

Bernards has been looking for someone to take over Get Lit since August. He says the program takes a serious commitment and he doesn’t have the time to keep it going.

If these plans materialize it would be a perfect fate for Get Lit. The program started from a $5,000 ODOT grant that was given out by the CCC through their annual Bike Safety Mini-Grant Program.

And the CCC is no stranger to bike lights…they’re hosting the See & Be Seen Bike Light Parade on November 30th (rumor has it that Commissioner Adams will attend). Don’t miss it!

This is great news. With the PPD stopping their program and Jeff wanting to move on, I was worried that free bike lights would disappear in Portland. Bravo to the CCC for stepping up.

Rock on! Thank you CCC. This will help keep the roads safe.

And Jonathan, you’re doing a heckuva job!
