The South Park Blocks will be taken over by super-fast cyclists tomorrow night at the fifth annual Health Net Portland Twilight Criterium. I went last year and had a great time.
The spectating is awesome. These guys come whizzing by, inches away from you…and as darkness falls, things get crazy.
This year they’ll have live music, a beer garden, a food court and free helmets for kids until 7:30 (provided by Health Net). Come down and support a great local race. You can even cheer on Portland’s very own Doug Ollerenshaw (just heard Doug will not be there), a member of Team Health Net (seen here in last year’s race).
The event kicks off at 4:30 and the Pro race starts at 8:00. I’ll see you there!

FREE BEER + T-SHIRT! All the cool kids know that volunteering for the crit is the best way to see all the action. You’ll get a free t-shirt and 2 beer tickets, redeemable after your shift is over. Shift is 5:30-9pm. Sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/qez8y

Thanks for the write-up, Jonathan!
Dougie won’t be there–he is racing in Utah right now.
That was fun. I hadn’t been to a pro bike race before. Here’s some pics from the Master’s race.
