Vintage Velo ride.

If Cinelli, Gitane, and Holdsworth mean anything to you, than this Sunday’s Vintage Velo ride is sure to satisfy.
Last Memorial Day, Portlander Larry Myers (who rides ‘77 Gitane tandem with his sweetheart) spread the word for a ride where only pre-1986 lightweight road, track and touring bikes were welcome. 40 people showed up and the ride was such a success that he plans to do it every month.
Larry and his “loosely-knit group” of lug-lovers are planning a 30-mile Sauvie Island Loop ride that will meet at the Community Cycling Center (1700 NE Alberta) this Sunday (6/24) at 11:00am.
Larry says,
“This is a relaxed, non-competitive ride, and riders of all skill levels are invited. We will regroup frequently; no one will be left behind.”
Sounds like a great ride. I don’t even own a vintage bike, but I like them so much I might go to the start just to stare (and take a few photos of course!).

I can attest that last month was great fun, with plenty of old steel to gawk at and be jealous of. Hot was the '40's Schwinn mixte painted pink, but I loved the bronze Cinelli with perfect internal brake line on the top tube.
Is it OK to ride my '88 Centurion? Two years too young, but pretty paint.

Also, I recall last time a friend showed with a late 90's road bike and no one really cared. The more the merrier!

[Not that it matters, but ... ] The last time I rode out to Sauvie's Island, did one loop, and rode back to Portland, it was 45 miles, total. Have fun!

I'm Looking forward to riding my '84 Bianci tomorrow. It's been hanging for 14 years, time to take it out for a good spin. Thanks for getting this going Larry. Let's hope for fair weather.
