Bicycle Master Plan ride #3
Last month’s Bike Master Plan Ride
drew a big crowd.

Next week, we have an opportunity to show the Mayor that the Bicycle Master Plan Update is much more than just another planning process.

On Tuesday (5/1), City Bike Coordinator Roger Geller will lead the fourth in his series of Bicycle Master Plan Rides.

Geller has said that by this Summer, he hopes to have 1,000 people join him. Let’s help him reach that goal by next week. Do you think we can do it?

The ride meets at Terry Schrunk Plaza, which just happens to be across the street from City Hall. I have invited Mayor Potter and his Policy Manager Elizabeth Kennedy-Wong to join us, or at least make a quick appearance.

I also hope other Commissioners and/or their staff will consider coming along too (come on Randy, we all know you ride your bike to work ;-) ).

Ride details:

For more about these rides, read my report (and listen to an audio clip of Roger Geller) from last month.

Hope to see you there!

(By the way, if you’re wondering what the heck the Bicycle Master Plan is, I’ve just added a new archive page which organizes all my recent coverage.)

If you go, be sure to tell Roger Geller your view of the Mayor's decision.

I'm at a point in my life with babies, remodeling and hectic work schedule that I normally can't participate in these types of activities. But I think this is one of those critical times when we all need to do whatever it takes to show up and make a statement. I'll be there. Hope others are thinking similarly.

if mayor potter is unable to roll in his recumbent I would be willing to pull him with my chariot.

I have another evening event but will try to meet up with the ride. Do you think I'll be able to find folks at about 8 pm?

With some minor skipage of class I ought to be there. I look forward to it, and I'll see if I can drag a friend or two along with me.

I'm calling in sick ... erm, taking a half-day vacation, Tuesday to join the ride. Should I bring my "Potter hates bikes" banner, or should I wait to find out if he still does on that date?

Can we go to a more reasonably priced bar this time? Rogue = tasty beer, high prices.

Sorry, can't go as this conflicts with the May Day march for workers and immigrant rights. See http://www.portlandvoz.org/2007/04/10/international-workers-day-celebration-may-1st/

I will try to make this ride, but if I fail, I hope someone will point out as the ride follows Willamette Blvd that there is a full mile of river side Greenway Trail on Swan Island available for recreation and used by the many Swan Island bike commuters.

Thanks, Jonathan, for the invitation to ride. As you pointed out, I will be riding that day but unfortunately in the other direction...so at least my thoughts will be with you.

I am going to work with Commissioner Adams and Mayor Potter to try and identify resources to fund the Bicycle Master Plan. As a bike commuter, I consider it a public safety issue as well as a planning issue.

Thanks for all of your great work.
