CCC serves up slick new website

Northeast Portland-based non-profit, the Community Cycling Center, has launched a new website.
The site is much friendlier to navigate than the old one (which had become quite a behemoth over the years) and they’re using Wordpress (just like BikePortland) to make it all happen. Hosting is being donated by EasyStreet and they’ve even got an RSS feed so you can keep up with all their latest news.
I couldn’t help but notice that the launch of this site comes almost exactly one year after they named Susan Remmers to the post of Executive Director. Remmers’ leadership has transformed this non-profit and her vision has set an exciting course for the future.

Thanks for sharing our new site Jonathan.
Another feature of the site I'm particularly excited about is a new online registration system for our Summer Bike Camps and Bike Maintenance Classes.
It's especially timely as we're offering a discount for early registrations for Summer Bike Camp - everyone who registers before April 1st can save $15 on every registration.
If the BikePortland.org community finds any bugs or broken links or has any suggestions for further improvement of our website, we'd love to hear them.

Ummm, it's a huge improvement, but it isn't anything to write home about (i.e. it is no longer an embarrassment). Non-profit's should not get gold stars for doing an average job.
Improvements: Organization, concise copy, clear path to donate.
Not So Hot: Annoying animated GIF slideshows, poor photography, Copy not compelling (amazing facts like the Xmas bike drive and the rate of recycling are poorly communicated, with little supporting imagery), the mission-program relationship is not clearly communicated, generic typography, fuzzy masthead logo . . . still work to be done. Where is a section for the kids the CCC serves? Where is the fun?
When I read between the lines I suspect that your article is saying this in a diplomatic way (by omission), but the headline is misleading, for "slick" it is not. At the very least you should give them some of your own amazing photos from the Christmas bike event at Emanuel, they desperately need some more quality shots. Still, as you say, a big improvement. Looks like it was done internally or by a non-professional volunteer, if i were to guess.

My understanding is that it was done as a project by PSU students, a fact I'd forgotten in the story.

Geez Ethan, give 'em a break. I suppose if it were a for profit, then your concerns would be alittle more valid. But come on. Being that students, or whomever for that fact, most likely spent there own time and talent on this project. Sorry it didn't meet your incredibly high standards, but it was pretty informative to me...and I've never been there. What is a non-professional volunteer anyway? A volunteer is a volunteer. They're there to help an organization in any way, shape or form, in any capacity needed or asked of them. Get out of your mom's basement and smell your Ovaltine! The site is fine for the purpose intended...so pffffffft.

EasyStreet is honored to be able to provide free hosting to the CCC (we have a LOT of cyclists in our office, so we're big fans). I think the redesign looks great and makes it easier than ever to navigate to all of their programs and services. Great job, CCC and PSU students!

Any website that can get me the information without taking a lot of my time, playing stupid songs in the background, or making me wait through a bunch of unnecessary flash BS gets two thumbs up from me :)
