A recently minted Portlander is matching the fun, informal vibe of a local fashion show with the sense of style that surrounds two-wheeled travel.
Not the style of the clothes the person riding the bike is wearing. The style of the bicycle itself.
“I don’t give a s— what you wear when you ride your bike,” said Jacob Goddard, 35, organizer of the inaugural Portland Bike Show. “I like the people who don’t wash their bike because they want to show off the dirt they got on it riding outside of Hood River.”
Adonia Lugo, who received a doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of California, Irvine who spent years as a community activist in Los Angeles, will speak at the Bureau of Transportation’s monthly “Brown Bag” discussion series this Thursday. Lugo earned her undergraduate degree from Reed College in Portland but returned to town only recently after stints in Los Angeles and Seattle.
In recent years, Lugo has emerged as a respected voice among transportation advocates due to her experiences and perspectives on how gender and race figure into bicycling policies, projects and priorities. During her time in Los Angeles, Lugo co-founded CicLAvia (that city’s version of Sunday Parkways) and City of Lights/Ciudad de Luces, a volunteer effort to provide bike lights and safe cycling information to Spanish-speaking immigrants, that has since become a stand-alone non-profit named Multicultural Communities for Mobility.

Unsafe stamps: The U.S. Postal Service killed a set of stamps depicting kids enjoying physical activity because another federal group said some of the activities might be unsafe. For example: “a youngster is doing a headstand without a helmet.”
Bike sculplture: Chinese artist Ai Weiwei unveils a massive installation in Toronto.
Crowdsourced route builder: Bike-tracking company Strava is using its users’ route data to identify popular bike routes.
Anti-texting cop: After reading that 10 Americans die every day from traffic crashes linked to cell use, a Georgia cop took it on himself to target it. He expects to write 1,000 tickets this year for texting while driving.
The days are getting shorter and that means more of our travel trips are being made in low-light and dark conditions. In an effort to promote visibility, TriMet is gearing up for their annual — and award-winning — “Be Seen. Be Safe” promotional campaign. The idea behind the effort, says TriMet, is to “educate people with simple steps we can all take to stay safe when walking and biking.”
According to their own study, on average, about 30 percent of collision incidents throughout the TriMet system occur in dark or dusk conditions. Statewide, Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) data shows that in 2012, 23 of the 60 fatal pedestrian/motor vehicle collisions either happened at night or were caused in part by a lack of visibility.

We are on the lookout for our new Dealer Sales Manager to develop bicycle dealer sales and service in the North America and abroad. Responsibilities:
• Develop a comprehensive sales strategy for our brand, from dealer loyalty programs to special events.
• Implement and maintain a customer management system (Sales Force).
• Increase product awareness and sales by calling current and prospective dealers.
• Keep distributor sales representatives informed about new PDW goods and how to sell them.
• Create and send out a dealer eNewsletter.
