‘Oregon Bike List’ aims to be Oregon-made directory

Oregon’s home-grown bicycle industry is very impressive. We know this because we’ve been covering our state’s bike builders and bike companies for many years here on the Front Page. Now there’s a site that’s trying to bring it all together in a simple, visual directory format: Oregon Bike List.

Oregon Bike List is the work of Portland resident Jeremy Krall. So far, Krall has listed the bikes and basic contact information for 45 or so Oregon-based bike builders. A web developer by trade (his day job is Tech Director with digital marketing agency R/GA), Krall told us the project was born out of his love for local, handmade bike stuff.

“I was recently building up a bike and had some wheels built by the folks at Sugar [Wheel Works] and the experience was amazing,” he shared via email. “Subsequently, I had a chance to tour Chris King [Precision Components] and saw the level of skill and craftsmanship that went into the process on the creation side.”

After those inspiring experiences, Krall started wondering about frames and realized many of his favorite bikes he’d “lusted after” on blogs were being built in his own backyard. “I was amazed.”

Krall says his Oregon Bike List site is an effort to put all the companies in one place and create a simple resource that makes it easier for folks to support Oregon-made bike products. He’s also looking for help and encourages people to send him updates and additional photos. Krall also mentioned that he might consider expanding the site to include Oregon-based component makers, apparel companies, and so on.

Great, way to go Jeremy!

It might be nice to know an annual round total for all bikes made in OR…it would confirm my suspicion that Oregon makes more bikes than motorized vehicles…Daimler might be the top motorised maker…depending on the percentage “made” locally vs. SC etc.

Thanks for the shout out and glad folks are liking it. Already had a ton of feedback and additions so thinking about expanding the site quickly, adding new content and features. Please keep sending your comments and suggestions and I’ll do my best to keep up!

Excellent! Mrs Dibbly wants a new bike in the next year or so. She’s pretty picky and I suspect that it’s going to take a custom build to get her what she wants. This will come in very handy.
