Back in October we shared the news that Portland Community College’s Cascade campus was planning to build a $9 million, four-story parking garage at the corner of N. Michigan and Killingsworth. Now there’s a new option on the table: an underground lot that would be built below existing campus buildings on N Jessup between Mississippi and Albina.

First Look: ODOT’s new I-5/Delta Park bikeway signage

ODOT has installed 36 new signs to help make it easier for bike traffic to navigate the shared-use path between Delta Park, the Marine Drive interchange, and the I-5 Bridge.

As promised, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has installed 36 new signs on the bike path between Delta Park and the I-5 bridge. I rode out there yesterday to take a closer look.

Study: Health benefits outweigh costs of ciclovia events

Ciclovias, the global term for what we call Sunday Parkways here in Portland, are nothing short of a revolution. Started in Latin America in the 1960s and made widely known by Bogota, Colombia, the events have spread like wildfire across North America in the last decade.

But with city budgets being very tight these days, programs like Sunday Parkways aren’t likely to survive the axe. Now, a new study, Do Health Benefits Outweigh the Costs of Mass Recreational Programs? An Economic Analysis of Four Ciclovía Programs, published in the Journal of Urban Health will help make the case that they’re worth the investment.

Metro’s latest ‘Opt In’ transportation survey draws ire

A Metro survey aimed at the 8,000 members of their Opt In Panel drew swift and critical reaction from active transportation advocates yesterday.

The survey was introduced as “some questions about infrastructure projects and economic growth in the Portland-metropolitan area.” Despite its intentions, the questions and phrasing rubbed some Opt In members the wrong way and they went to Twitter to share their reactions.

Someone locked their bike next to mine and also locked one of my brake cables. I waited until 930PM for this person to come back and release my bike, but they didn’t. So, I locked my bike to the bike rack with my cable lock and went home to bed. When I came back the next morning, both bikes were gone.
