You never know where you’ll end
up on the Get Lost ride (tonight at 6).

I had a great time just editing up today’s list of rides. The bike hijinks of Pedalpalooza continue with a slew of rides for every taste and style. From small bikes to tall bikes, explosions, tea and tree forts — and even some fun in the ‘Couv! Today should be another very good day.

And remember, I’m posting ride recaps and photos over on the Pedalpalooza 2011 page.

12:00pm OMSI Science Ride
Our ride will start at noon at OMSI (1945 SE Water Ave) with some sciency fun while we wait for everyone to gather. Our meeting spot is in the parking lot behind the PEPCO building. This is the white building just north of OMSI. If you’re riding along the esplanade you’ll see us and we’ll put up some signs to help. We’ll hit the road around 12:30 for a casual ride with some science stops along the way. We’ll make a loop and return to omsi and take a behind the scenes tour of our exhibit-building workshop. Then we’ll make some liquid nitrogen ice cream, and have at least one big explosion.

Meet at the Peninsula Park gazebo at 4, we’ll ride out at ~4:15 (if you miss us, head up Vancouver Ave and catch us if you can!). Vantuckians, hang on, we’ll be there soon!

5:00pm 2nd Brompton/Folding Bike Tea Ride
Meet at Clever Cycles, 908 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Tea at 5:00, Ride at 6:00 – If small wheels and ‘origami’ bikes are your thing, join us! We will serve tea at 5:00 and gaze lovingly on our folding bikes… So bring your Molton, Pashley, Dahon, Fridays… Ride starts at 6:00 and we will probably end up at the Belmont Station for some pints!

5:00pm Pop Crawl (Vancouver)

5:30pm Bikes, beer, bags, bocce, ballons & bingo ride

6:00pm Get Lost!
Meet at Bikeasaurus, 1337 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd (Under the Hawthorne bridge at SE MLK)
A ride led entirely by chance. Dice are rolled to determine how many blocks to ride, and which direction to turn once we get there (Odd total =R, Even =L). You never know what to expect. Since we won’t be taking designated bike routes riders should be pretty comfortable in semi-hairy conditions, but dangerous or illegal routes will not be traveled. Probably not a loop, but that’s what we said last year, and we (eerily) ended up in the exact place we started! Read about last year’s ride here: http://bit.ly/eDaPZW

Tutus, princess dresses, fairy wings, wigs, tiaras… Put on your dress-up clothes and streamers and come ride around town with us until we are tired and bored and need liquor. Tequila!

6:00pm Tai Ji and Qigong For Cyclists

6:00pm Demo Derby
Meet at SE Stark St and 13th Ave (on the steps on the north side). Once known as the sport of tsars, demolition derby was the province of Russian nobility during the pre-Revolutionary era. After the disposal of bourgeoisie customs in the hectic months following the October revolution, demo derby was not seen for decades until resurfacing in the American heartland. Come participate in this ancient and revered sporting event at Washington High School. Rules will be announced prior to the start.

Possible after-event: “how to repair badly damaged bicycles to get home”

Quick note about the 5:30pm Bikes, beer, bags, bocce, ballons & bingo ride, the tennis courts are near Ash, not Ankeny. Ankeny is on the other side of the park.
