Portland: Where clowns and tall bikes (still) thrive

I finally watched the trailer (see it below) for the new show, Portlandia that’s coming to IFC in January. The show is set up as a spoof of sorts on Portland’s weirdness, where “The dream of the ’90s is still alive” and where “young people go to retire.”

Just for the record, I think it’s fantastic that our city is full of people who make and build tall bikes, who clown and perform, and do other creative things. I find it interesting that Portland is being spoofed about this. Bring it on!

Check out the trailer below… where you’ll see some local tall-bike riders among the extras…

Awesome.
I love how LA of all places is the “normal” one.

I noticed Kyle Maclachlan plays the Mayor in Portlandia and Sam Adams plays the Mayors assistant. Is this strange coincidence of names or is Portlands Mayor have a recurring part in this? Either way, that’s too weird! Even for Portland.

That should read as “or does Portland’s Mayor”

OK, so that IS Mayor Sam Adams playing the Mayor’s Assistant. I’m also surprised at some of the other folks appearing in Portlandia.

Where can we go to see this when it airs?

Haha, this is exactly what happened to me when I visited Portland in Dec. 2009. It inspired me to invent a solar panel for a bicycle.
