Portland Opera has found another way to tap into the local bike scene. Back in May, we brought you the story of how they actively encourage visiting Opera stars to borrow bikes while they’re in town.
Now, they plan to bring the Opera directly to the bikeways with a new event they call Bikes, Bohème, and Beer. This Friday, Portland Opera has invited all bike commuters that roll by their SE Caruthers Street location to stop in for complimentary beverages on their riverside patio (that just so happens to be a few feet from the busy Eastbank Esplanade). Here’s a snip from their notice about the event:
“In an effort to meet the cyclists that ride by The Hampton Opera Center each day, Portland Opera is inviting them to stop by for a beverage on our riverside patio. With musical highlights from Puccini’s La Bohème providing the atmosphere on a lovely summer evening, bike commuters will enjoy complimentary beverages provided by Widmer Brothers Brewery.”
It’s great to see this sort of recognition of bike traffic and even better to have a local organization embrace it as a business/marketing opportunity. Bravo!

Now that’s bike culture!
Ah, finally, my two favorites.
I am always singing opera arias while on my bike…being the singing diva, that I am.
I will definitely be rolling and singing by to toast the vocal geniuses.

Bravissimi, Portland Opera team. Fabulous idea!
No doubt about it, I’ll be there!
