Popular bike comic creator coming to Portland

Rick Smith, creator of the popular web-based comic series Yehuda Moon & The Kickstand Cyclery, is coming to Portland.

Clever Cycles (908 SE Hawthorne Blvd.) will host the event and Smith will sign books and will have t-shirts and prints of individual strips available for purchase.

The Yehuda Moon comic is set in a bike shop and Clever Cycles co-owner Martina Fahrner says, in her year of following the strip, she couldn’t help but notice how the characters and products in The Kickstand Cyclery resembled her own (like this one from July 2008). She was also struck how Yehuda reminded her of fellow co-owner (and husband) Todd Fahrner.

“I am an avid reader of the strip since Yehuda reminds me often of Todd,” said Martina. The book signing event came together when she found out Smith planned to visit Portland and wanted to test ride a bakfiets: “We thought that other Yehuda fans might like to meet Rick and support the Kickstand Cyclery through purchases of t-shirt, prints and books.”

The event is just one of several special events being held at Clever Cycles this month to celebrate their second anniversary.
