Local apparel company inks deal to sell Lucky Lab jersey

Roger Mallette of Retro Image Apparel is wasting no time establishing his business in Portland. Mallette, who just moved his headquarters to Southeast Portland in December, inked a deal yesterday to design and sell a Lucky Labrador Brewing Company bike jersey.

The jersey is the first in what Mallette hopes will be a large line of microbrew-themed jerseys. He’s created a subsidiary company, Microbrew Jerseys, that will be spun off from his well-known Retro Image Apparel brand.

Mallette stopped by BikePortland HQ yesterday to give us the first peek at his design for the new Lucky Lab jersey. Here’s the back of the men’s version:

And the front of the women’s version (back side will have helmeted pooch just like above):

The jerseys will be unveiled on February 15th at the Worst Day of the Year Ride, which starts at Lucky Lab’s SE Hawthorne location. Mallette also plans to sell the Lucky Lab jersey through his major national distributors like Quality Bicycle Products and through catalog publisher VeloGear. The jersey will also be sold to international distributors in Japan and Germany.

Nice! When I saw the lab-in-a-helmet design for the Tour de Lab, I thought it would look good on a jersey. I like the large barley silhouettes; are those barley stalks around the sleeves as well?

We were really excited to work with Lucky Lab on these jerseys by passing on the Tour de Lab log with the helmeted dog. I look forward to seeing these all over town!

ummmm – what’s up with the women’s jersey? Why no helmet on the lab? No way I can buy that for my girl friend and live in peace – c’mon guys title 9 was years ago – heard of Kristin Armstrong, recent Olympic gold medalist? Her palmares make the other Armstrong look like a club rider. I’m certain the designers will correct the ruff draft before this dog bites.

PS – otherwise sweet looking jersey for the men

Who cares if a dog wears a helmet. I’m more concerned they ride fixed 🙂

I like the overall design, but the green and the yellow just don’t work for me.

Maybe it would look better with blue and yellow.

I’m just sayin’.

🙂 The lab looks like mine, but I’d never get him to wear a helmet! 🙂

Love it!
Too bad I hate paying money to wear advertising. 🙁 If I ever rode out of state it might be cool…
