Several readers have sent in links to a story in Seattle about a cyclist shot by a gun loaded with BBs on his commute home.
Peter McKay was the victim and he’s written about the ordeal on his blog.
Other coverage of the story has come in from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, blogger and advocate Kent Peterson, and local cyclist (and friend of Peter’s) Michael Rasmussen.

The Seattle PI had an interesting story about this and some other things today.
City tries to ease tensions between bicyclists, motorists
That is \”cyclist shot with gun loaded with bb\’s\”
thanks for pointing that out spencer..I\’ve changed the title and post to be more accurate.
Before I saw this story, I had no idea BBs could puncture the skin like that. As a kid, it almost seemed like those guns were marketed as toys. Scary.
I get the impression (as do many others) that it is very unlikely that these bb\’s came from a bb gun. The fact that he heard \”gun-like shots\” and that two bbs entered his body leaving \”near parallel debris fields\” suggests that the shot came from a firearm. Most likely a small caliber gun loaded with bird shot (bb\’s).
The bb guns that I remember couldn\’t penetrate two layers of clothing and then go through that much tissue, with one entering Peter\’s lung and the other nearly striking his aorta.
Peter is a friend and we both ride with the same club, the Seattle International Randonneurs. There has been a really incredible effort in the club over the last few days to work with Crimestoppers in Seattle to find out who did this. So far, the members of SIR have pledged over $4,000 with which to offer a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who did this to Peter.
find peter\’s blog and read it.
he wasn\’t shot with a \”bb gun\” it was .22 bb cap rounds. No propellent (gunpowder) just primer with a round (bb) bullet. They have \”cap rounds\” which are the same thing (no gun powder, just primer, but with a conical bullet.)
they are both \”de-powered\” rounds.
