BTA brings Amsterdam to Alice Awards party

Alice Awards party

The BTA is busily working on plans for their big Alice B. Toeclips Awards party and auction. Last year, the formal event — which is the BTA’s big annual fundraiser — packed the Oregon Convention with a who’s-who of Portland’s bike scene.

This year’s event will have an Amsterdam theme and they’ve already secured a bakfiets cargo bike as one of the auction items (courtesy of Clever Cycles). Here’s more from the BTA blog:

“With blue bike lanes, bike boxes, bike signals, bakfiets, and Bike Safety Education in schools, Portland and Oregon and SW Washington are starting to look more and more like Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Alice 2007 will highlight the inspiration the BTA has taken from this little flat country full of bikes and dikes and how we’re putting it to work here at home.”

There’s even talk of a bakfiets and Dutch bike test track being set up at the event.

The Alice Awards go to “bike heroes” from Oregon and SW Washington and the BTA is currently accepting nominations.

BAKFIETS … I’m totally obsessed. I’ll be the one hogging the test track in my fancy dress and heels. See you there!

Great pic of Bud Clark.
He is one of my favorite Portland people.
Who rode his bike into and around town most every day when in office and out.
Long Live Bud Clark!!!!

Make sure to make those “Toeclips nods” at the actual Alice site, don’t just talk about it: http://www.aliceawards.org

A Bakfiets and Dutch bike test track…what a great idea! Who thought of that? Wha…oh – we did?? Uh oh. Better get cracking.

Anyone got 50 yards of red carpet they can loan us?
