Cyclocross race planned for Sauvie Island

Portland Racing — the folks behind the MTB Short Track series — have teamed up with Team Veloshop and Kruger’s Farm on Sauvie Island (just 10 miles north of Portland) to bring us Kruger’s Crossing on Sunday, December 3rd.

According to Portland Racing honcho and Bike Gallery Marketing Director Kris Schamp, the course, “will lead along rutted farm roads, through berry fields, pastures, a barn, and a full-scale corn maze!”

Kris also says they’ll have plenty of hot wine and hot cider on hand.

It’s great to see a willing business owner working with promoters to host a bike race. Don Kruger, owner of the popular farm and market, has previously offered cyclists use of his restroom facilities and has even offered parking for the many folks that like to ride out on the island (Ayleen Crotty from ORBike recently shared some tips on how to ride out there).

Hopefully this event can also be a foot-in-the-door for cyclists and Sauvie Island residents to eventually get together and have some constructive dialogue about sharing the island’s popular, narrow roads.

Aw, and here I thought the pain was just about over for the season. Another 45 minutes of hell, psyched!
