Matt Cartwright is a North Portland-based artist who specializes in metal fabrication. He is responsible for many local bike sculptures including the people on the roof of River City Bicycles and many others.
Todd Fahrner is a local entrepreneur from Southeast Portland who has gained a solid following for his “human-electric hybrid drive” kit, a.k.a. the Stokemonkey. His fledgling company, Cleverchimp, is currently mail-order only but will someday be a true local business that he hopes to run out of his backyard.
Fahrner wanted the entry to his backyard shop to send a clear message to visitors so he commissioned Cartwright to build him a gate. The result is something every true bike lover can appreciate…
You can read more about this gate on Todd’s Cleverchimp Blog.

Cool beans!
The artist in me appreciates it and loves it.
Sweet! Todd has such a great yard… as I discovered when my sis and I were in the neighborhood and she somehow got multiple thorn punctures in a tire. Todd was home and helped get the bike back on the road. Thanks! I look forward to seeing what becomes of the “shop.”
Man, I was just there, picking up the Stokemonkey for our project bike a few weeks ago and missed the gate! Check the big fun you can have with Todd!
